Song Stories: Fearless

Published On July 10, 2024

This song challenges me. It’s one of those that just flowed out one day. It’s written from the perspective of Jesus speaking to the listener. From the perspective of Jesus speaking to me. I am well acquainted with fear and anxiety.

Did you know that in the Bible there are around 365 times that the phrase “Do not be afraid,” or some variation of that sentiment, appears? That’s right, 365 times! One appearance for each day of the year. In the gospels, Jesus used it often. Just read about the time He walked on the water out to the boat where the disciples were struggling against the wind. They thought they were seeing a ghost. He told them to “Take courage” and that it was Him.

There are a lot of scary things in this world, but God is bigger than all of it. He created the world, so there’s nothing in it that can overpower Him. And Jesus is always with us. The book of Matthew concludes with “The Great Commission.” Please read it if you haven’t. Jesus has all authority over creation and said that He will always be with those who belong to Him.

So whenever fear or anxiety start to attack, I hope this song will help you to remember that we have nothing to fear, because Jesus has us in His hand. We can live fearlessly for Him, because fear has no authority. Jesus does.
